New Delhi:

India headed into the Wellington Twenty20 International against New Zealand high on confidence. They had won the ODI at the same venue and secured a 4-1 series win, their best scoreline in any format since they started touring New Zealand in 1967. However, they were dealt a rude blow as Kane Williamson’s side handed them a massive defeat to prolong Rohit Sharma’s pain. With the win in Wellington, New Zealand are leading the three-match series 1-0 and they will be aiming to seal the series with the second match in Hamilton. In the Wellington ODI, there were plenty of records broken by batsmen while India’s jinx in the shortest format continued in New Zealand. Here are some of the key numbers from the Wellington match.

80 – The margin of defeat for India in the Twenty20 match in Wellington. This is India’s worst loss in terms of runs in T20Is, breaking the previous worst of 49 against Australia in Barbados in the 2010 World T20.

7 – Number of matches India has lost to New Zealand in Twenty20 Internationals, which is the joint-most against any team. India has also lost seven matches to England.

219 – The highest score for New Zealand against India. This was the first time that New Zealand has scored 200+ in a T20I against India.

3 – India’s third consecutive loss to New Zealand in T20Is in New Zealand. In 2009, they lost the two Twenty20 Internationals by a close margin.

2 – New Zealand’s score of 219 is the joint-second highest score by an opposition against India. West Indies’ 245/6 is the highest against India.

7 – Rohit Sharma’s streak of seven consecutive T20I wins has ended with the loss in Wellington. MS Dhoni had won seven T20I matches in this format twice.

84 – Tim Seifert’s individual score which is the third-highest score by New Zealand player in T20Is against India. Colin Munro slammed a century in the Rajkot T20I in 2017 while Brendon McCullum smashed 91 in the Chennai Twenty20 International in 2012.

10 – Number of wickets for Ish Sodhi in Twenty20 Internationals against India. He is joint-second with Shane Watson and Dushmantha Chameera while Pakistan’s Umar Gul leads the charts with 11.
