New Delhi:

Pakistan endured a torrid time in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. The team suffered a 0-5 whitewash as Australia staged a resurgence and continued their dominance of Pakistan, having not lost a bilateral ODI series against them since 2002. If things were bad on the field for Pakistan, things became worse for one member of the Pakistan team off the field. In a tweet which features Pakistan legspinner Yasir Shah in a TikTok video, the bowler is humming to the tune of ‘Oh Humsafar’, a song sung by Neha Kakkar and Tony Kakkar and the video features Neha and her ex Himansh Kohli.

While some appreciated Yasir’s act, there were some who were trolling the Pakistan legspinner for appearing in the video in the aftermath of Pakistan’s whitewash against Australia. Some Pakistan journalists supported Yasir, saying that the issue need not be blown out of proportion.

Recently, Yasir was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) which is the third highest civilan honour in Pakistan. The 32-year-old shared it on his Twitter handle and added he was honoured to get the award. Yasir had apparently gotten the award for breaking Australian legspinner Clarrie Grimmett’s record of fastest to 200 wickets, which he achieved in 1936. In the 2018 Test against New Zealand in Dubai, Yasir picked up 8/41 and 6/143 to finish with 14 wickets in the match.

In the process, Yasir became the fastest to 200 wickets, achieving the feat in just his 33rd Test. His figures of 8/41 in the Dubai Test were the third-best figures by a Pakistan bowler in Tests, behind Abdul Qadir and Sarfraz Nawaz. He picked up six wickets in the second innings and finished with figures of 14/184, the joint-best figures for a Pakistan bowler in Tests. Imran Khan, the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, holds the record with 14/116.

Pakistan will now play five ODIs against England as part of the preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The 1992 World Cup winners will open their campaign against West Indies in Trent Bridge but the most-awaited encounter will be against India on June 16 in Manchester. Pakistan have lost all six encounters against India in the World Cup and they will be desperate to break the jinx.
