Prithvi Shaw's woeful luck when it comes to injuries continues. After he missed the tour of Australia due to an ankle injury which he sustained in Sydney against a Cricket Australia XI, Shaw is now in danger of missing the entire New Zealand tour for India A due to a shoulder injury during Mumbai's Ranji Trophy game against Karnataka at the BKC stadium. A media release by the BCCI summed up Shaw's current state. "Shaw suffered from rotator cuff and labrum injury to his left shoulder while fielding on Day 1 (January 3, 2020) of the Paytm Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Karnataka.
Shaw is currently under rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and has been ruled out of India A’s two upcoming practice games in New Zealand. A call on his participation in the one-day and four-day matches will be taken at a later stage," the statement read.
Shaw, who hit 29 in the first innings, hurt his left shoulder while saving an overthrow in the last session on Friday and underwent an MRI scan in presence of Mumbai's physio. It has now been revealed that Shaw will not bat in the second innings as he looks to recover in time before the squad departs for New Zealand. The media manager of the Mumbai side said, "He is having a little pain and hence he won't bat in the second essay." Rahane came out bat in his place in the second innings but Mumbai lost by five wickets to languish at 13th in the Ranji Trophy points table.
Shaw had helped India achieve glory in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup when they defeated Australia in the final in New Zealand. Shaw and the likes of Shubman Gill, Manjot Kalra, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and a whole host of Indian superstars helped India become the most successful team in the history of the Under-19 World Cup. Now, Priyam Garg will be hoping to give India glory ahead of the 2020 Under-19 World Cup that will be played in South Africa.
Before the Under-19 World Cup, the India colts are scheduled to travel to South Africa for three one-day matches against the Proteas U-19 side, followed by a Quadrangular Series featuring South Africa U-19, India U-19, Zimbabwe U-19 and New Zealand U-19.

India A will play three one-dayers and two four-day games (unofficial Tests) starting from January 22. The first match will take place at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval while the other two games on January 24 and 26 will be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The first unofficial Test will be on January 30 at Christchurch while the final match will be on February 7 at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.
