New Delhi:

Rohit Sharma has already smashed plenty of records in the ongoing series against South Africa. His maiden double ton in the Ranchi Test made him the fifth Indian opener to go past 500 runs in the series. In Vizag, he had become the sixth Indian player to hit a century in both innings of a Test match. As an opener, Rohit has stepped up and silenced his critics in grand style. During the course of his knock of 212, Rohit broke a 71-year-old record set by Sir Don Bradman and it was the highest Test average at home after 10 innings.

After 10 innings at home, Bradman had an average of 98.22 in Tests. With 12 innings at home, Rohit now has an average of 99.84 at home. In the Vizag Test, he had equalled Bradman's average but with his double ton in Ranchi, he has zoomed past the record and he now has a chance to go past 100 in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. In his knock of 212, Rohit smashed six sixes and he also created a new six-hitting record in a Test series.

Rohit's tally of 19 sixes in the series has taken him past Shimron Hetmyer's previous record of 15 against Bangladesh last year. In the Vizag Test, Rohit smashed a combined total of 13 sixes and it was the most by a player in a single Test match. In Ranchi, he notched up his 100 and 200 with a six and when he hit one more six after going past his milestone, Rohit had gone past fifty sixes in Tests.

Rohit is the sixth Indian after Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly to hit 50 or more sixes in Tests. Sehwag leads the list with 91 sixes in 104 Tests. Rohit is only the ninth player to have hit a superior sixes to matches ratio in Tests, with New Zealand's Brendon McCullum leading the list with 107 sixes in 101 Tests.
