Virat Kohli is making a comeback into the Indian cricket team for the series against West Indies after skipping the Bangladesh series.

New Delhi:

In the build-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, India skipper Virat Kohli had said that most of the core members who would be headed to England were already finalised by the time India's series against New Zealand ended. Ahead of the series against West Indies, Kohli has once again stated that the core composition of the Indian cricket team has been finalised and only one spot is up for grabs in the upcoming ICC World T20 which will be played on October 2020 in Australia. India play a total of 11 Twenty20 Internationals for now with three against West Indies and Sri Lanka followed by five in New Zealand.

"The fight obviously is for one spot and I think more or less three guys have made a place for themselves. It's going to be a healthy competition and it will be interesting to see how it pans out. It's not that big an issue for us. I think Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar) and (Jasprit) Bumrah are experienced bowlers. They have been very consistent in T20 cricket. Deepak (Chahar) has come in and has bowled really well," he told reporters," Kohli said in the media interaction before the start of the clash against West Indies in Hyderabad.

The Indian pace attack looks menacing with the return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami in the T20 set up. Shami last featured in a T20 International in 2017, while Bhuvneshwar returns to the squad after recovering from a muscle problem. Bhuvneshwar's last T20 was against the West Indies in the Caribbean in August this year. The find of the Bangladesh series, Deepak Chahar has also made a case for himself with his brilliant display in the last series at home.

"Also couple of more guys are under the scanner for sealing that spot along with three seamers. It's a good position to be in because everyone is bowling really well," the India captain said.

The injury to Shikhar Dhawan has opened up a pandora's box where they will be looking to settle their top and middle order combination. The series is big, in that sense, for the likes of Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. One has been incredibly unlucky to not have played in the series against Bangladesh while Pant has been under scrutiny ever since he was appointed as MS Dhoni's successor. Other than Samson and Pant, the side will see the spin twins of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav play together in the Twenty20 side for the first time this year.
