New Delhi:

Virat Kohli's Indian cricket team secured a dominating 318-run win in the first Test against West Indies at North Sound, Antigua on Sunday. Ajinkya Rahane's brilliant 81 and 102, backed by some brilliant bowling from Ishant Sharma (5/42) and Jasprit Bumrah (5/7) gave India a commanding win. Bumrah's fourth five-wicket haul and the cheapest haul by an Indian bowled West Indies out for 100, their lowest Test total against India. The win made Kohli the most successful Indian skipper in terms of overseas victories. Kohli overtook over former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly for the number one spot with 12 test victories in matches outside India under his belt now. The result also made Kohli the joint-most succesful captain for India in Test cricket. He has now led India to 27 Test match wins- the same as MS Dhoni.

However, the win in Antigua continued India's love affair at North Sound. In 2016, India had won by an innings and 92 runs which was their best result in terms of innings wins outside the subcontinent. Three years later, India won by a margin of 318 runs, which is the best in terms of runs outside the subcontinent.

India's best result in terms of runs before this match was 279 against England in Leeds in 1986 while their next best was 272 runs against New Zealand in Auckland in 1968.

During his spell of 5/7, Jasprit Bumrah achieved the most economical five-wicket haul in Tests by an Indian bowler. The previous cheapest five-wicket haul was by left-arm orthodox spinner Venkatapathy Raju when he took 6/12 against Sri Lanka in Chandigarh in 1990. Harbhajan Singh had also taken 5/13 when he ran through the West Indies in Jamaica in 2006.

Bumrah also achieved a first for an Asian bowler in Test history. The right-arm pacer took his fourth five-wicket haul in Tests and it has come in four different tours and in his first set of tours. Bumrah took his first five-wicket haul in Johannesburg against South Africa and he followed it up with a five-wicket haul in Trent Bridge, Melbourne and now Antigua. Remarkably, India have won all Tests where Bumrah has taken a five-wicket haul.
