New Delhi:

Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore is the marquee clash in the Indian Premier League. It is dubbed the ‘Kaveri Derby’ or the ‘Ashes of the South’. The rivalry between these two sides has captivated cricket fans in India. It helps that the franchise has massive fan followings on social media. In IPL 2019, the opening game is a cracker, with Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram stadium. The fact that the teams are led by MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli respectively gives this encounter top billing. Recently, on the official Twitter handle of the IPL, there was a video made which built-up the frenzy of the Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore clash.

In the video, fans of both the franchises are trying their level best to outdo each other in all walks of life. Sparks are flying and the atmosphere is absolutely electric. Towards the end, the crescendo is built with both CSK and RCB fans going after each other on the street. On the rooftop above, both Kohli and Dhoni are enjoying the atmosphere with a cup of tea. Dhoni tells Kohli towards the end, ‘Don’t be late’.

Chennai Super Kings, who were banned for two years from the Indian Premier League along with Rajasthan Royals in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal, returned in grand style in the 2018 edition of the tournament as they won the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai to clinch the title for the third time.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore have faced each other 22 times in the Indian Premier League, with MS Dhoni’s side winning 14 encounters while RCB have won just seven times. Dhoni’s side has won six consecutive encounters against Kohli’s side. The last encounter between these two sides that took place at the MA Chidambaram stadium was way back in 2013 and it was a thriller. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers smashed fifties as Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 165/6. In response, Ravindra Jadeja kept Chennai Super Kings in the hunt with a brilliant knock and in the last over, CSK needed 16 runs and it was going to be bowled by RP Singh.

Jadeja smashed a four and a six off the first two balls and CSK needed six off four balls. The equation boiled down to two runs off one ball and Jadeja upper-cut a short ball to third man where he was caught. RCB had thought that they had won the game but RP Singh had overstepped. Jadeja had crossed for the run and in a bizarre way, CSK had won the match by four wickets with one ball to spare. The hope from all the fans is that CSK vs RCB provides more thrills in the coming matches.
