New Delhi:

Looks like Saturday evening was a dark one for all the Virendra Sehwag fans as the former Indian cricketer has parted ways with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab. Sehwag announced the news on Twitter, saying "all good things must come to an end".

"I’ve had a wonderful time at Kings 11 (sic) Punjab, for 2 seasons as a player and 3 as a mentor. My association with Kings 11 (sic) comes to an end and I am thankful for the time I have had here and wish the team all the very best for the times ahead," he added.

Being touted as one of the most destructive batsmen of all time, Sehwag was appointed KXIP’s mentor in 2016 and has also led the team before.

Sehwag's decision to quit XXIP came after the team, owned by Bollywood diva Preity Zinta and three others, appointed former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson on a two-year contract earlier this week. Hesson replaced Australian cricketer Brad Hodge, who served as the head coach of XXIP for the last one year.

Speculations has been also rife that, the former Indian opener left XXIP following his alleged spat with co-owner Preity Zinta last season. According to reports, there was a fall-out between the two after Punjab's loss to Rajasthan Royals.

It's been 10 years that IPL has been bringing festivity to the family audience, creating a mass hysteria every summer. However, KXIP has never managed to win the cricketing extravaganza in the last ten years. Their last appearance in the play-offs was in 2014, when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
