London:
Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, the head of FIFA’s taskforce, has claimed that the 2022 Qatar World Cup should be held in winters during November and December.
According to the reports, the traditional June-July time would prove difficult to host the tournament in the Gulf State due to the high summer temperatures, which could pose a serious risk to players’ health.
However, top European clubs have so far resisted suggestions that the tournament be played during their domestic season and officials have also been anxious to avoid a clash with the 2022 winter Olympic Games.
Reflecting on the issue, Sheikh Salman said that all parties had to compromise, not just the Europeans, adding that stakeholders were concerned about playing in the summer, so they had to change to winter, that is January or November, the BBC reported.
