Leicester City chairman killed in helicopter crash, club issues official statement

Leicester City chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has died in the helicopter crash that took place outside the stadium hours after the club had played a Premier League game against West Ham United.

The club put out an official statement on their Facebook page which stated that the chairman was among the five people who died in the helicopter crash on Saturday.

Several eyewitnesses reported that the helicopter was spinning very quickly and that it was hovering near the roof of the stadium. Police apparently tried to put out the flames but there were reports of that it hit the ground and immediately burst into flames.

The Leicestershire Police, on their Twitter handle, released a statement which confirmed that five people had died in the crash. In the wake of the events, the club’s game against Southampton in the EFL cup and the development squad’s game against Dutch side Feyenoord have been postponed.

In 2015/16, Leicester City created history by winning the Premier League for the first time in history. Bookmakers had said the odds of winning the title were 5000-1 but the team overcame several odds and under Claudio Ranieri, they chalked up one of the most memorable moments in the Premier League.
