Spanish soccer giants Real Madrid shall be locking horns against city rivals Athletico Madrid in a mouthwatering semifinal encounter of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Real Madrid shall be hosting Atletico in the first leg of the semis being played out at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. Dubbed as the Madrid Derby, the teams have a long drawn history of footballing rivalry going back to decades. Both the clubs are hailed as the top flight clubs in the Spanish La Liga and have fought many a battles on soccer field to vie for the coveted La Liga title.
Atletico has been pretty disappointing with their domestic form this season as compared to Real Madrid who sit on top in the points table with Barcelona. Real have had the better of Atletico in their recent clashes in Champions League with Real rendering heart-breaking losses to Atletico in the 2014 and 2016 finals. Real had also eliminated Atletico from the quarterfinals of the 2015 Champions League.
So Altetico would be looking to extract sweet revenge from their nemesis this time on. With a galaxy of soccer superstars on both sides, the football fans can expect another slug feast on the cards with no side giving each an inch on the field.
