ICC World Cup 2019: Injury scare for India as captain Kohli hurts thumb during training

Ahead of their World Cup opener against South Africa on Wednesday, India were dealt a major injury scare when skipper Virat Kohli hurt his thumb during a training session at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Kohli was practicing in the net when he hurt his right thumb. The injury looked serious in nature and physiotherapist Patrick Farhat had to rush to attend the star cricketer.

The physio first used magic spray on the injured thumb and then applied a tap on it. Later, Kohli left the field with his thumb dipped in a glass full of ice. The extent of Kohli's injury was still unclear as the Indian team management didn't come out with any official statement.

India, tipped as tournament favourites by experts, has been hit by injuries in the run up to the World Cup. While Kedar Jadhav is still nursing the shoulder injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League and missed India's both warm-up games against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

Another key player, all-rounder Vijay Shankar also sustained injury and had to sit out of the warm-up game against New Zealand. Shankar injured his elbow during the training session. India will play South Africa in its opening mathc of the ICC cricket world cup 2019 on May 5, Wednesday.
