New Delhi:

Jasprit Bumrah continued his magnificent run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as he entered an elite list of bowlers during India's clash against Sri Lanka in Leeds on Saturday. Sri Lanka chose to bat in slightly overcast conditions but Bumrah started off brilliantly when he got the edge of skipper Dimuth Karunaratne for 10 to MS Dhoni. Bumrah's wicket was his 100th in ODIs and he became the second-fastest Indian to reach this landmark in 57 games. Mohammed Shami holds the record for the quickest to 100 in 56 games which he achieved against New Zealand in Napier earlier in the year. Bumrah broke left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan's mark which he achieved in 59 games during the clash against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2006.

Afghanistan legspinner Rashid Khan holds the current world record for the fastest to 100 wickets, taking it in just 44 games. Mitchell Starc, who is currently the leading wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, took 52 matches to reach the landmark.

Bumrah has enjoyed a magnificent time in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He started off with two wickets against South Africa and despite going for runs against Australia, he managed to take three wickets. Bumrah had an underwhelming time against Pakistan when he was tonked around the park by Imad Wasim but bounced back with some sensational bowling against Afghanistan and West Indies. Bumrah showed his brilliance in the death overs by not conceding many runs during England's onslaught of 338 in Birmingham while against Bangladesh, he took four wickets and ensured Mashrafe Mortaza's side did not get momentum.

Bumrah also continued to amass great numbers as the wicket of Karunaratne was also his 200th in international cricket. In addition to 100 wickets in ODIs, he has taken 51 Twenty20 International wickets and 49 wickets in 10 Tests. Bumrah has been the key factor in India's Test wins in South Africa and England when he took five wickets in Johannesburg and Trent Bridge. However, Bumrah's haul of 20 wickets in the four-Test series against Australia in 2018/19 helped the Indian side win a series Down Under for the first time.

India will be aiming to register a win and top the group. If Australia loses to South Africa, then India will play New Zealand in the first semi-final while Australia will take on England in the second semi-final. However, should Australia win, then it will be India vs England again in the semi-final followed by another Trans-Tasman clash.
