New Delhi:

In 11 World Cup editions, the closest victory margin was seven runs by Australia against England in 1987 at Kolkata. Now, England, with the pain of three World Cup final losses and New Zealand, the 2015 final losers, clashed against each other. It was already 6:45 AM in New Zealand. 100 overs later, a New Zealand-born cricketer playing for England almost hurt the Kiwis. Ben Stokes blasted 83 but the match ended in a tie and for the first time in World Cup history, the title would be decided on the super over. Trent Boult leaked 15 runs and New Zealand needed 16 runs. James Neesham blasted a six off Jofra Archer, who came into the England side as a man of destiny having just qualified to play for the national side. Two runs were needed off one ball. Martin Guptill, who had endured a nightmare World Cup, had a chance for glory. However, when he turned for a second, Guptill was run-out. The super over was tied. England had won the World Cup due to a bigger boundary count. Read that again: England won the World Cup because the boundary count was higher. 22 by England as compared to 16 by New Zealand.

15:14 hrs IST: Can England become the third team to chase a total and win the World Cup? Or Will New Zealand continue the dominant trend in the final which was broken in 2011?

15:12 hrs IST: The national anthems are done. It is finally time. The final is about to commence. Hang on, folks. This will be a tense first hour.

15:05 hrs IST: In 2015, #BacktheBlackcaps was the major trend in the final against Australia. In 2019, at Lord's, this is once again the top trend. Here is a video message from the All Blacks for the Blackcaps.

15:01 hrs IST: Ahead of the final, here is how the All Blacks are cheering the BLACKCAPS in their quest for World Cup glory. The weight of the nation is on both Eoin Morgan and Kane Williamson as they aim to secure glory.

14:57 hrs IST: Both teams have major sources of inspiration in order to win their first cricket title. New Zealand, in particular, need not go any further than the all-conquering All Blacks Rugby team, who have dominated the sport unlike any. For England, they can draw inspiration from their women's cricket team when they won the 2017 World Cup by defeating India at Lord's.

14:51 hrs IST: Here are the playing XIs of both the sides in this final

England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w), Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

New Zealand (Playing XI): Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Kane Williamson(c), Ross Taylor, James Neesham, Tom Latham(w), Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson

14:49 hrs IST: England are also fielding an unchanged side. Eoin Morgan said the transformation has been brilliant of the team ever since they were dumped out in the first round in Adelaide after losing to Bangladesh.

14:47 hrs IST: New Zealand opt to bat against England in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. They are unchanged with Kane Williamson saying that it is a bat first wicket. He says inexperience is the major factor which resulted in their 2015 final loss.

14:27 hrs IST: The pitch is green at Lord's. It had rained in the morning but now the sun is out. The toss has been delayed and it will take place at 14:45 hrs IST. Match to start at 15:15 hrs IST

14:23 hrs IST: In all matches played at Lord's in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, teams that have batted first have won the match. In World Cup finals though from 1975, West Indies won both their titles batting first and so did India in 1983. Australia was the only nation that bucked the trend in 1999 when they chased successfully against Pakistan.

14:20 hrs IST: For all of you asking what the weather is like at Lord's, it is sunny at the moment. For once, let us hope rain does not play spoilsport.

14:17 hrs IST: For England, the 2019 Lord's final gives them a chance to exorcise the ghosts of 1979, 1987, 1992, 2013 Champions Trophy and 2016 World T20 final losses. For New Zealand, the pain of their losses in the 2009 Champions Trophy and 2015 World Cup final can all be erased in one instance.

14:11 hrs IST: Nice guys finish last! Well, Kane Williamson will be hoping to prove this adage wrong and ensure New Zealand finish at the summit.

14:05 hrs IST: 1975 - West Indies. 1979 - West Indies. 1983 - India. 1999 - Australia. In all these World Cups, we saw the teams create glory at Lord's. 1975 and 1983 saw new teams emerge champions which changed their cricketing landscape. Which among England and New Zealand will lift the trophy and ensure cricket remains the flavour of the nation for the next couple of years?

14:02 hrs IST: A warm welcome to the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. After 47 league games, countless rain interruptions, plenty of drama and emotion, we have now come down to the last two teams. In 2019, there will be a new world champion. Will it be England, will it be New Zealand? We are all set to find out in the next eight hours as the World Cup draws to a close.
