New Delhi:

Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim showed their class in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash against Bangladesh at the Kennington Oval on Sunday with a brilliant performance. Shakib smashed his 43rd fifty while Rahim blasted his 34th fifty to stitch a record stand for Bangladesh in the World Cup. It took a special effort from Mahmudullah, who smashed 46 off 33 balls and an aggressive cameo from Mosaddek Hossain as Bangladesh reached 330/6, their highest team score ever in the World Cup. The score at the Oval goes past their previous best of 322/6 which they achieved against Scotland in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 clash in Nelson, New Zealand. It was a day of records for Bangladesh in their opening game of this tournament and this will give their fans plenty to cheer.

Bangladesh's score of 330/6 is their highest-ever score in ODIs, going past the 329/6 which they achieved against Pakistan in the ODI series in 2015 in Dhaka. This was only the second time that Bangladesh had posted a total of 300-plus in the World Cup. This was only the fourth time that South Africa had conceded a total in excess of 300 in the World Cup. Australia's 377/6 in the 2007 World Cup clash in St Kitts is the highest by an opponent against the Proteas.

Bangladesh has the second-highest score in the World Cup against the Proteas while England went past 300 in the opening game of the tournament. This is the first time Bangladesh has crossed 300 in ODIs against South Africa. The partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim was also a record. The 142-run stand is the highest partnership for Bangladesh in the World Cup, going past the previous best of 141 between Mahmudullah and Rahim for the fifth wicket against England in Adelaide during the 2015 World Cup.

It was in the Adelaide game which saw Bangladesh beat England by 15 runs and they qualified for the World Cup knock-out for the first time. South Africa will now be attempting to achieve the highest ever run-chase in the history of the tournament as they look to bounce back after losing their opening game against England by 104 runs.
