New Delhi:

Mumbai Indians will be gunning for their fourth consecutive win when they take on an under-performing Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday. However, before the match, there were some reports being circulated about a potential terror attack at the Wankhede stadium for the IPL 2019 encounters. According to the rumours, there was a possibility of a terror attack on the buses of the teams carrying the players to the venue for the match. However, Mumbai Police have released a statement and brushed aside these rumours, terming them ‘fake news’ and assuring that the city was safe and all possible security arrangements have been done to ensure the players were safe.

"There is no specific intelligence input about the threat to Wankhede Stadium during the IPL matches," Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Manjunath Singe said. Mumbai police have been taking and will always take the highest possible security measures to keep the city safe, he added. Police urged the people not to believe in rumours and fake news.

On Friday, rumours about a possible terrorist attack at an IPL match and one field stadium led to concerns among people who had booked tickets for the upcoming matches involving Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians are currently on a roll and they will be looking to continue the momentum against a Rajasthan Royals side who are still seventh in the points table. A win for Mumbai Indians will boost their chances of reaching the top four while a loss will intensify the race for the playoffs. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have won just one out of their six encounters and they face an uphill task to reach the top four. Their only win so far has come against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have failed to win any of their games in this tournament so far.

Rajasthan Royals will be aiming to overcome their poor record at the Wankhede stadium but Mumbai Indians will be hoping to welcome back Rohit Sharma, who had missed an IPL game for the first time in 11 years due to a leg injury.
