Greater Noida:

Tata Motors claims that its trucks will be faster and lighter for season two of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship to be held at the Buddh International Circuit here this weekend.

The company says that twelve ‘heavily-modified’ trucks weighing six tonnes each are capable of generating 370bhp and a top speed of 130 kmph, 20 kmph more than the inaugural edition in 2014. The ‘beasts’ are also 10 percent lighter, according to Tata.

The drivers’ line-up include last year’s winner Stuart Oliver besides David Jenkins, Steven Powell, Matt Summerfield, Simon Reid, Steve Thomas, Chris Levett, Ben Horne, Paul Alan McCumisky, Graham Powell and Richard Collett.  Most of them had demanded more power in trucks last year.

Two races will be held over the weekend. There will be a six-lap sprint race followed by an 18-lap battle amongst drivers of six teams.

The championship has got the nod of world motorsports body FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) and FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).
