Mumbai:
Ranchi would play host to the eighth Asian Age Group Swimming Championships, it was announced here today by the Swimming Federation of India general secretary Kamlesh Nanavati.
“We are conducting the Asian Age Group Championships in September in Ranchi. This clinic by (top US coach) Richard Shoulberg will be helpful to the SFI coaches,” said Nanavati.
Three-time American Olympic swimming coach Shoulberg is conducting a week-long clinic, from March 2, at the Rajiv Gandhi sports complex in Dharavi which is a joint initiative of Glenmark Aquatic Foundation and SFI.
The SFI would conduct the junior nationals in July at Pune “which would be used to select the Indian team for the Asian Age Group Championships,” he said.
“We expect to win more medals (than before) in the championships,” added Nanavati.
India had won 8 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze medals to finish fifth in the 7th AAC held in 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
