Hammer thrower Kamalpreet Singh has improved his own national record to 70.38m at an invitational event at Sacramento (California) in the United States.

Representing ‘Team ONGC’, Kamalpreet bagged the gold with a new national record throw of 70.38m that bettered his previous mark by one centimeter at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational Track and Field Championships on March 21.

His record throw came in his sixth attempt. He also delivered two other 70-plus throws through his first (70.23m) and third (70.05m) efforts.

At the moment, Kamalpreet’s 70.38m stands as a leading mark by an Asian and currently puts him 25th in the IAAF World Rankings.

The 27-year-old Punjab thrower had registered 70.37 at Tucson (Arizona) in the USA last year which was the national record till his latest feat.
