Serena Williams releases a video to spread breast cancer awareness

Tennis star Serena Williams has always taken a stand for the things that truly matter, especially to women. To boost the spirit of acknowledgement during the breast cancer month, Serena posted a video of herself singing the Divinyl’s hit song ‘I Touch Myself’, in order to create awareness about breast cancer.

Serena has never shied away from the taboos of society and this time has stepped out of the zone of conventions for the video. She reminded women to give themselves regular breast examinations so that the detection of any potential cancerous lumps could be made early.

She stated that this video has put her out of her comfort zone, but she wanted to do this because it is an issue that affects women of all colours. Breast cancer is an issue that is often not talked about, which makes it even more hazardous. Early detection is the key to fight this disease and can be achieved only through awareness.

The tennis player mentioned that the music video is a part of the I Touch Myself Project which was created in honour of celebrated diva, Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away from breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. This is a yearly campaign that starts on October 1st and ends on October 31st.
