New Delhi:

The 2018 WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view was a contest to determine which brand, RAW or SmackDown was supreme in the World Wrestling Entertainment. Normally, a 6-0 scoreline in any sport signifies total dominance. That was the scene in Survivor Series as the RAW Brand, mostly telecast on Monday’s, won 6-0 against SmackDown in this competition. There were some memorable encounters in this match, with Universal Champion Brock Lesnar beating WWE Champion Daniel Bryan but the event would be remembered for RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, considered to be the ‘baddest woman on the planet’, getting a brutal beating at the hands of Charlotte Flair to stagger out of the tournament with a win courtesy a disqualification.

The Survivor Series competition witnesses a five-on-five contest between Team RAW and Team SmackDown in both men’s and women’s event. In the men, the likes of Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre were the last men standing as Team Raw won the men’s five-on-five contest. The story was repeated even in the women’s event with Nia Jax the lone survivor as she helped RAW achieve the double. However, Jax’s win was soured by plenty of boos as she had broken SmackDown women’s champion Becky Lynch’s nose, rendering her unfit to participate in this event.

However, the event would be remembered for Flair’s brutal beatdown of Rousey while Lesnar held on against Bryan, who had won the championship against AJ Styles a week before the main event.

Lesnar dominated the match and unleashed a barrage of suplexes on Bryan but a low blow behind the back of the referee gave the WWE Champion an advantage. Bryan went to work on the knee and ensured the more powerful Lesnar would struggle for his power moves. The SmackDown champion applied the Yes Lock in the middle of the ring and came close to a famous win but Lesnar powered out and in the end, a thunderous F-5 finishing move gave Lesnar a hard-fought win.

However, the match that got everyone talking was Flair’s beatdown of Rousey. The RAW Women’s champion, considered to be the most dominant athlete around, was already under the pump the week before Survivor Series after Lynch had almost broken her arm during SmackDown’s invasion of RAW the week before.

Both women exchanged blows with Flair locking on the figure-four leg lock. However, Rousey reversed the move and then unleashed the Piper’s Pit, which resulted in Flair crawling out of the ring. Once Rousey gave her chase outside the canvas, the match changed as Flair attacked her with a Kendo stick. The assault continued and even in the ring, Flair beat Rousey with another Kendo stick as the referee signaled the bell which resulted in Rousey winning by disqualification. Flair left the ring after the beating but she returned and wrapped a chair around Rousey’s throat and began to stomp her. After the match, Rousey struggled to her feet and was attended to by the medics.

RAW may have reigned supreme over SmackDown, but some matches and their results could bring in brilliant storylines as WWE heads into 2019.
