New Delhi:

Services of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp --  three major social networking sites -- which had been down across the globe, including India, for more than an hour, are back again, according to users. Users on Twitter on Sunday afternoon started complaining that they were unable to use social media networking platforms. While Facebook and Instagram were both inaccessible, WhatsApp messages weren't being sent or received. Users of Facebook’s main services took to Twitter to share that they are facing the problem.

According to traffic-monitoring website DownDetector, the outage was first noticed around 5 pm IST. Users started heading to other social media platforms to report issues accessing the services moments later as reports of outages filtered in from parts of North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

The outage comes exactly a month after Facebook went down for almost a full day across parts of North America and Europe on March 14. At the time, the social network had said the outages, which affected users and advertisers worldwide, resulted from a “server configuration change”, news agency Associated Press had reported. Some media outlets had branded the outage — which also affected Instagram as well as Messenger — as the biggest in Facebook's history.
