New Delhi:

Tech giant Google on Thursday celebrated the commencement of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 with a doodle. Matches will be held in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14, 2019. The Google Doodle features a cricket ball and three stumps. Hosts England will face South Africa in the first match of the tournament today. The Google Doodle has a reach in countries like India, Pakistan, hosts United Kingdom, Iceland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. India will take on South Africa in their first match of the tournament on June 5.

World Cup 2019 got officially underway with a cracking opening ceremony in London on Wednesday. Malala Yousafzai was among the ones that stole the show. She stressed the importance of women taking up sports.

"Right now were are seeing more and more women taking part in sporting activities. In Pakistan, we have some amazing cricketers, including Sana Mir. These role models are inspiring women to believe in themselves that they are capable of anything. Women should engage more in sports and we all have to contribute to that and encourage women and girls," Yousafzai said.

"I have been a big fan of cricket since my childhood. I used to play it on the streets, on rooftops. I still remember fighting with my brothers to let me play even if I get out. This sport connects people from different backgrounds, different cultures. It is uniting people from different countries."
