New Delhi:

Twitter on Thursday asked all its users to change their passwords after it discovered a bug had unintentionally unmasked the passwords in the internal system.

The company sent out an email to all users and informed that the it identified a bug which stored unmasked passwords in an internal system. It said when a user set his/her password, the company used technology to mask it so that nobody at the company can see it.

The microblogging site in its mail said that the it had fixed the bug and the investigation showed no signs of misuse or breach by anyone. It asked the users to change the password on all the services where they have used the same.

The company said that it found the error by itself, removed the passwords and was working on plans to prevent the bug from affecting the system again.

Twitter suggested the users few tips through which they could keep their account safe. Have a look at them right here.

1- Change your password on Twitter and on any such service where you have used the same password.

2- Use a strong password which you are not going to reuse on other services.

3- You should enable login verification, which is also known as two factor authentication. This provides an extra layer of security to your account.

4- Using a password manager is advisable to ensure that you use an unique and strong password everytime.
