Motorola’s iconic handset RAZR is all set to make a comeback in the mobile market as a foldable smartphone for $1500. Lenovo owned Motorola will launch the Motorola RAZR by the end of February 2019. Motorola RAZR was one of the iconic handset of the last decade and more than 130 million units were sold in total. RAZR was first launched in the year 2004 when it was sold as a luxury phone at a price of $600. As per a report by Wall Street Journal, Lenovo is now planning to launch the updated version of RAZR in the smartphone market.

As per the report, Motorola RAZR will be a Verizon exclusive in the US market while the device is still in testing mode which is why its specifications and features are yet to be revealed.

Motorola RAZR became one of the most loved handsets worldwide until the launch of Apple iPhone in the year 2007 which put a dent on RAZR’s sales. In the year 2008, 24 per cent of new iPhone users had switched from the same Motorola RAZR.

This isn’t the first time Motorola has mounted a comeback, as the company has earlier launched Droid RAZR back in the year 2011 but failed to impress the buyers and was soon shown the way out from the market.

Before the launch of iPhone worldwide, the phone market was dominated by Motorola which accounted for around 27 per cent of the cell phone market while Nokia hold the additional 20 per cent of the market share.

In the current scenario of the phone market, these two companies are shown the way out of the league as several new companies has taken over the market share. Currently, Motorola accounts for around 6 per cent of the cell phone market while Nokia is completely out of the market and Apple iPhone rules the throne with 40 per cent of the phone market.

It will be interesting to see what Lenovo owned Motorola has in store to make a comeback in the cell phone market.
