Smartphone comparison: Redmi 5A vs Nokia 2 vs Moto C Plus

New Delhi:

Chinese handset brand Xiaomi on Thursday launched its most affordable ‘Made in India’ smartphone, Redmi 5A. Dubbed as ‘Desh Ka Smartphone,’ the Redmi 5A is likely to be pitched against the likes of Nokia 2 and Moto C Plus of the same price category. Here’s how Redmi 5A competes against Nokia 2 and Moto C plus on various aspects.

Yes! looks matter. Check out the design and display:

Similar to its predecessor Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 294 ppi. The smartphone comes with an eye protection mode and wears a metallic body design.

On the other hand, Nokia 2 also comes with a similar 5-inch LTPS HD (1280×720 pixels) display but has a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Moto C Plus also packs a 5-inch HD display but the Gorilla Glass protection is missing from the smartphone.

A must have feature, the Camera:

Xiaomi is never short on packing features even in its budget smartphones. It has continued this legacy with Redmi 5A as well. The smartphone bundles a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture with LED flash along with a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Nokia 2 takes a beating in the camera department. The phone has a lower 8-megapixel rear camera without the LED flash. The smartphone also features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Moto C Plus also comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with no LED flash. The smartphone disappoints even more with just 2-megapixel front camera.

Pricing and availability, because money matters:

Xiaomi has launched Redmi 5A at a price starting from Rs 4,999 for 2GB/16GB variant and Rs 6,999 for the 3GB/32GB version.

But the base price of Rs 4,999 will be applicable for the first 5 million customers only. Thereafter, the 3GB variant will be available for Rs 5,999. Reliance Jio is offering an enticing cashback offer on the Redmi 5A. Under the Better to Offer, consumers will get a cashback of Rs 1000, which will bring the effective price of the 2GB variant to Rs 4,999 from Rs 5,999, while the 3GB version will cost Rs 5,999 instead of Rs 6,999.

The smartphone will be available for sale from December 7 exclusively on Flipkart and Mi Official website. Customers can also purchase the handset from Mi’s retail stores.

Nokia 2 and Moto C Plus carry the same price tag at Rs 6,999. While the Nokia 2 is available at all major retail stores across India, the Moto C Plus is a Flipkart exclusive phone.

Let’s get into the mature guy’s stuff:

Battery: This time Nokia beats Xiaomi with its long lasting 4,100mAh battery as compared to Redmi 5A’s 3,000mAh battery. The Moto C Plus is slightly behind Nokia 2 when it comes to power, but still offers better standby talk time than Redmi 5A with a 4,000mAh battery.

RAM and Storage: Redmi 5A has two variants of Internal Storage - 16GB and 32GB. It can be expanded upto 128GB with mirco-SD card. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC.

As compared to Redmi 5A, Nokia 2 comes with an outdated entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC paired with an only variant of 1GB RAM and 8GB Internal Storage.

Moto C Plus does slightly better than Nokia 2 and is powered by a 1.35GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 SoC processor. The phone is available in only one variant of 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Software and connectivity: Redmi 5A runs Xiaomi’s own MIUI 9 out of the box. The Nokia 2 and Moto C Plus run the same stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

All the three handsets offer dual-SIM support, and high speed 4G VoLTE internet connectivity.
