New Delhi:

Microsoft has finally announced the ending of its interface Windows 10 Mobile for the smartphones by the end of this year. In an ‘End of Support’ page of Microsoft, the company told its users that the Windows 10 Mobile will not receive any update after December 10. It means the tech giant will not be rolling out new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free assisted support options or online technical content updates for Windows 10 Mobile.

After clicking a link on FAQ page which reads ‘What should Windows 10 Mobile customers do now’, the company states “With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices’’.

Meanwhile, the support and update for the Windows 10 Mobile will no longer be available after the end of the year 2019 but the company may continue to provide some services. The page reads, “After the end of support, automatic or manual creation of new device backups for settings and some applications will continue for 3 months, ending March 10, 2020. Some services including photo uploads and restoring a device from an existing device backup may continue to work for up to another 12 months from end of support’’.

However, the Windows 10 Mobile smartphones will be working even after December 10, 2019. Meanwhile this deadline is for Windows 10 Mobile (version 1709) smartphones only. Other handset including Lumia 640 and 640 XL which were launched in the year 2015 which runs on Windows 10 Mobile (version 1703) will not receive any updates post June 11, 2019.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO’s statement was also available on the support page regarding Microsoft’s virtual assistant Cortana. He said, “Cortana needs to be that skill for anybody who’s a Microsoft 365 subscriber. You should be able to use it on Google Assistant, you should be able to use it on Alexa, just like how you use our apps on Android and iOS, so that’s at least how we want to think about where it’ll go’’.
