Nation View | Cash Crunch: Ailing woman dies outside bank in Bihar's Purnia

An ailing, elderly woman died in Bihar's Purnia after a bank allegedly refused to let her withdraw Rs 17,000 from her account for medical expenses. Noor Jahan Khatoon, 70, tried to withdraw money at a Central Bank of India branch in Purnia district. Her family said she and her son, Mohammed Shaboo, had been trying to withdraw money from her account for the past four days. "My mother had been coming to the bank for the past few days to withdraw money for her treatment, but she was not allowed to. The bank said that there was not enough cash," Shaboo said. On Thursday, Shaboo pleaded with the bank officials for money, citing his mother's bad health. The bank finally gave him Rs 5,000.
