Beijing:
A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rocked China's western Xinjiang region, killing eight people and injuring 11 others on Thursday.
The quake struck at 5:58 am (local time) at a depth of about 8 km, and its epicentre was in the southeastern part of the Pamir plateau, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The people who sustained injured have been sent to hospital for treatment.

More tremors were felt after the quake, witnesses were quoted as saying by the report.
The search and rescue operations are underway, it said.
