New Delhi:

Issuing a historic royal decree, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman on Tuesday ordered driving licenses for women in the Kingdom.

This new law is expected to be implemented till June 2018 and for this, the royal decree also ordered the formation of a high-level committee.

The committee will involve the ministers of internal affairs, labour, social development and finance. They will be responsible for the enforcement of the new law.

“The royal decree will implement the provisions of traffic regulations, including the issuance of driving licenses for men and women alike,” Al Arabiya quoted the Saudi Press Agency as saying.

It can be seen as a great step towards women’s rights as Saudi Arabia is a highly conservative country where there are many restrictions on them.

In July, a young woman who wore a miniskirt in Public and posted a video online had been arrested by police in Saudi Arabia. The incident had sparked an outcry from people across the world.
