New Delhi:

In a bizzare and brutal incident, scores of angry villagers recently attacked an Indonesian crocodile farm and slaughtered as many as 292 reptiles in the Sorong district of the eastern Indonesian province of West Papua.

The incident took place weeks after a man was attacked and killed by a crocodile in the Sorong district farm. The 48-year-old was attacked by a crocodile after he entered the farm and was likely picking grass for animal feed.

”An employee heard someone screaming for help, he quickly went there and saw a crocodile attacking someone,” the head of the Indonesia‘s Natural Resources Conservation Agency said.

Post his burial, a group of villagers in sheer anger entered the farm and stabbed the crocodiles with knives, machetes, swords and other sharp objects till their death.

According to reports, the police and conservationists were rushed to the spot but however failed to intervene as the mob was heavily outnumbered.

Meanwhile, photographs showing bloodied carcasses of the crocodiles in a large pile is currently doing rounds on the social networking sites.

Crocodiles are protected species in Indonesia and the farm was given licence to breed protected saltwater and New Guinea crocodiles in 2013. The law enforcement agencies, however, have promised a complete probe into the incident.
