As many as six people were killed and 16 others injured in a suicide bomb blast near a military training academy in Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul on Thursday. It is to be noted that the horrific attack took place in the afternoon, a time when students typically leave school early during the month of Ramadan. The horrific attack was was claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group.
The Afghanistan's interior ministry confirmed that the bombing took place at the entrance gate of Marshal Fahim National Defense University in Kabul. However, he did not gave any further details.
In a statement, Kabul police spokesman Firdaws Faramarz stated that the suicide bomber had been on foot. "The bomber blew himself up when a soldier challenged him," Faramarz said.
"Based on initial information, six people killed, 16 wounded, police have reached the scene," he added. The attacker "detonated himself before reaching his target", Faramarz stated, without providing further details.
The suicide bombing comes at least three days after 14 personnel of Afghan security forces were killed in multiple terror attacks that took place in different parts of Afghanistan. The attacks were claimed by Taliban.
On May 12, at least eight children were killed and two others sustained injuries in a roadside bomb explosion in the south-eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan. The horrific incident took place when the children were playing in the area stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The blast occurred at around 8 am in the Muqer district of the province.
