Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s son had a narrow escape in a bomb blast in Pakistan’s Lahore on Tuesday. According to a report by news portal Firstpost.com, the blast occurred during religious at Lahore’s Jamia Masjid Ali-o-Murtaza on Muhammad Ali Road in the Township neighbourhood on Tuesday. The report said that though there has been no confirmation so far, Pakistani authorities are officially calling it a cylinder blast. Report quoted various on-ground sources as saying that the target of the blast was Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief’s son Talha Saeed. The Firstpost report said that Talha Saeed was being treated at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore.

With father’s health deteriorating, Talha Saaed has been playing a pivotal role both In Lashkar and JuD. In fact, the July report had said that Talha Saeed was overseeing the training and other operations in Afghanistan for anti-India attack squad. The report also cited new findings by the United Nations and the Pentagon, which also pointed to huge presence of Lashkar terrorists in Afghanistan.

Lat week, Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed could not be indicted by Lahore's anti-terrorism court for terror financing charges as the authorities strangely failed to produce the other co-accused at the high-profile hearing on Saturday. The development came a day after India said it was aware that the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack was "roaming freely" and enjoying "Pakistan's hospitality".

The US Department of the Treasury designated Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, and the US, since 2012, has offered a USD 10 million reward for information that brings the JuD chief to justice.

On July 3, top 13 leaders of the banned JuD outfit, including Saeed and Naib Emir Abdul Rehman Makki, were booked in nearly two dozen cases for terror financing and money laundering under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. Saeed-led JuD is believed to be the front organisation for the LeT, which is responsible for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 people.
