New Delhi:

At least nine people were killed, including two children, and three others were injured after a plane carrying them crashed shortly after takeoff in South Dakota. According to reports, the pilot of the plane is among those killed. The injured have been rushed to a hospital in Sioux Falls.

"The men and women of law enforcement, first responders and medical professionals should be commended in their heroic actions to rescue the victims in extreme weather conditions," Theresa Maule Rossow, the state's attorney for Brule County, was quoted as saying by ABC News.

According to reports, the Idaho-bound Pilatus PC-12 plane took off from Chamberlain, South Dakota, and crashed about a mile southwest of there. The cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigators have left of the spot and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified.

Earlier on Saturday, the pilot of a propeller plane died after it crashed into the garden of a house in Ronneby, southeastern Sweden, police said. Police received word of the crash about 3:40 pm (1440 GMT).

"A small propeller plane has crashed in the garden of a house in a residential area in Ronneby," which has a population of about 13,000 people, police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told AFP.

The plane caught fire, sending heavy smoke billowing over the neighbourhood. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly, the police said, and no one on the ground was injured.

However, the pilot, who was alone in the plane, was killed in the crash.
