New Delhi:
At least 10 civilians, including four women and a child, were killed and six others injured in a roadside bombing in central Afghanistan on Friday. It is to be noted that the powerful explosion took in the district of Jaghato in Ghazni province. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the deadly attack.
According to Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry, the civilians were in a minivan traveling from the Day Kundi province to the city of Ghazni when their vehicle was targeted. The Interior Ministry blamed the Taliban for the attack, who control much of the region.
It is worth mentioning here that Taliban control or hold sway over nearly half of Afghanistan, staging regular attacks that target foreign and Afghan forces, as well as Kabul government officials, but also kill scores of civilians.
This comes two days after a powerful bomb-and-gun attack took place on the largest American military base in Afghanistan that killed at least one person and wounded more than 80 others, mostly civilians.
Afghan military authorities had said a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed vehicle in front of the gate of an unused hospital almost adjacent to the Bagram Airfield in Parwan province. The Taliban took responsibility for the attack.
In a statement, the Taliban claimed in a statement that one of the assailants blew up his vehicle-borne bomb, destroying an outer wall of the Bagram base. It said the blast enabled a group of heavily armed Taliban fighters to storm the facility, sparking gunbattles with foreign troops that were still raging.

Importantly, Wednesday’s attack came as peace negotiations between the Trump administration and the Taliban are underway in Qatar, to find a political settlement to the Afghan war. However, both sides have revealed little about the ongoing talks in the Gulf nation.
