Suicide Bomb Blast Targets Security Forces In Afghanistan

New Delhi:

At least 10 people were killed and 27 others injured on Monday after a suicide bomb blast hit a minibus that was transporting recruits of Afghan security forces in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

Soon after the attack, Ataullah Khogyani, the governor's spokesman, released a statement saying the bomb detonated in a rickshaw-like vehicle. In the meantime, Sohrab Qaderi, a member of the Nangarhar provincial council, said that some of the wounded were in critical condition.

So far, none of the terrorist groups have claimed the responsibility for the attack. But both Taliban and the Islamic State group are active in eastern Afghanistan and especially the Nangarhar province.

Last month, a powerful suicide truck bomb devastated a hospital in southern Afghanistan, killing as many as 20 people and wounding more than 90 others. Taliban had claimed the responsibility for the attack. The explosion destroyed part of the hospital in Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul province, and left a fleet of ambulances broken and battered.

Previously, at least 26 people were killed and 31 injured near an election rally held by Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani in central Parwan province. Also, the Taliban had launched an attempt to take the city of Farah, briefly seizing an army recruitment center and setting it on fire. However, airstrikes were called in and the Taliban were eventually forced out of the city.
