New Delhi:

Days ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s swearing-in ceremony, Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N and Bilawal Bhutto’s PPP-Parliamentarian has announced to field their own candidate for prime minister in parliament.

The PML-N and the PPP-P had alleged rigging in the 11th Pakistan National Assembly elections in which Imran Khan’s party PTI emerged as the single largest party but fell 21 short of the majority mark of 137 directly elected seats.

However, despite the coming together of two traditional political rivals – PML-N and PPP-P – will not be able to derail the cricketer-turned-politician's election as prime minister. However, it would minimise the majority of the PTI in the National Assembly.

In the July 25 elections, Imran Khan’s PTI had won 116 seats in the 272-member National Assembly. His party was assured of having enough coalition partners to prove majority on the floor of the House.

“It is an alliance which is against the rigged elections, and where all the political parties were not provided with a free and fair, level playing field,” said Maryam Aurangzeb, the spokesperson of PML-N.

The PML-N and PPP-Parliamentarian had joined hands with several smaller parties to form an Opposition alliance called All Parties Conference (APC). However, the APC didn’t have enough numbers to block Imran Khan’s election as prime minister of Pakistan.
