New Delhi:

United States President Donald Trump on Sunday expressed condolence on the deadly serial blasts that rocked Sri Lanka, which killed 170 people and left more than 400 injured. However, he 'miscalculated' the death toll, saying that "138 million" people were killed in the explosions and over 600 injured.

"Heartfelt condolences from the people of the United States to the people of Sri Lanka on the horrible terrorist attacks on churches and hotels and badly injured 600 more. We stand ready to help!" he tweeted.

Later, Trump deleted the tweet and posted a fresh tweet with 'correct' numbers.

"138 people have been killed in Sri Lanka, with more that 600 badly injured, in a terrorist attack on churches and hotels. The United States offers heartfelt condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka. We stand ready to help!" he tweeted.

The eight blasts killed nearly 160 people -- including dozens of foreigners -- with British, Dutch and American citizens believed to be among them. The nature of the blasts was not immediately clear and there were no immediate claims of responsibility.

Since Trump won the presidency in November 2016, he and his team have published a surprising number of official communications that contain typos, spelling errors, and word misusages.

His most infamous typo occurred in December, when he described the Chinese seizure of a US Navy drone as an "unpresidented act." After the spelling miscue was widely mocked online, Trump deleted the tweet and replaced it with a correctly spelled version four hours later.

In May 2017, he unexpectedly unleashed a new word on the world on May 31, 2017, when he tweeted out a confusing partial sentence shortly after midnight. "Despite the negative press covfefe," the tweet read, and nothing more.

He soon deleted the tweet, but instead of pretending it never happened, he leaned into it.

"Who can figure out the true meaning of 'covfefe' ??? Enjoy!" he said nearly six hours after the original tweet went out.
