Manchester: Two People Stabbed, Cops Put Piccadilly Gardens On Lockdown

New Delhi:

Two people were stabbed in Manchester city centre on Monday. The incident happened near Morrisons supermarket in Piccadilly Gardens at 12:10 GMT. One man was rushed to hospital with injuries not appearing to be life-threatening, BBC quotes a police spokesperson saying. Police initiated a number of road closures and people have been asked to avoid the area.

According to initial media reports, it was 'targeted attack' and there was no threat to wider community. No arrest has been made so far in the stabbing case.

The incident has come after ISIS claimed responsibility for a knife attack in South London last week.

Last year, Manchester witnessed the same incident when a shopping centre was shut down following reports of a stabbing inside. The shopping centre was evacuated as police responded to reports of the stabbings.

In a similar incident in 2019, several people were injured after a stabbing spree near the iconic London Bridge.

London Bridge was one of the areas targeted by an ISIS-claimed terrorist attack in June 2017, when 11 people died as terrorists went on a stabbing spree after ramming a van into pedestrians. Several people were injured after a stabbing spree near the iconic London Bridge.
