At least 16 people were injured in a huge fire that broke out at a major convention centre in Egypt’s Cairo district today, the health ministry said.
The fire broke out in one of the administrative buildings of Cairo International Conference Centre in Nasr City, said health ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel-Ghafar.
Huge plumes of smoke emanated from one of the buildings in the sprawling centre which hosts many of the country’s major conferences.
A number of military helicopters and at least 20 fire tenders were trying to extinguish the fire.
Ten persons with minor injuries were provided treatment at the scene of the incident, while six others were admitted to an area hospital, Egyptian TV reported.
