London:

A woman in Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul has been lynched by a mob for allegedly burning a copy of the Quran near a mosque, police said.

Local police commander Saleh Mohammad said that hundreds of locals and passersby attacked her with stones and sticks, reported the BBC.

Witnesses said that her body was then set on fire.

Four suspects have been nabbed but the woman has not been identified.

An Afghani news agency quoted the parents of the woman, named only as Farkhunda, as saying that she had been suffering from a mental illness for 16 years and that she had not “intentionally” burnt the Koran .
