New Delhi:

Sparking an immediate controversy, a Polish Member of the European Parliament has said that woman should earn less than man because they are "smaller, weaker and less intelligent."

During a debate on gender pay gap, Janusz Korwin-Mikke said that woman should rightfully earn less than man. His statment erupted a fierce backlash on social media and among political bigwigs of Europe.

The 74-years-old MEP from the remote region of Silesia stated, "“Of course women must earn less than men because they are weaker, they are smaller and they are less intelligent, they must earn less, that‘s all."

Criticising Korwin-Mikke’s misogynist remarks, MEP for Malta Roberta Metsola termed the comment offensive to women. She said that the comment also betrays the values of the entire EU.

Another Malta MEP, Miriam Dalli, described Mikke’s statment as “detrimental to society as a whole.”

Janusz Korwin-Mikke has remained in news for his sexist views in the past as well.Previously he claimed that women should be denied the right to vote, as they “want to be led by men.”
