Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy says he never spoke with President Donald Trump from the position of a quid pro quo.” Trump later claimed Zelenskiy had said Trump had done nothing wrong. But Zelenskiy didn’t go that far in a Time interview published Monday. Trump’s July 25 call with Ukraine’s president is at the centre of the House impeachment probe, which is looking into Trump’s pressure on Ukraine to investigate political rivals as he held back nearly USD 400 million.

Zelenskiy said, “I never talked to the President from the position of a quid pro quo. That’s not my thing. I don’t want us to look like beggars.”

Trump later tweeted, “The President of Ukraine has just again announced that President Trump has done nothing wrong with respect to Ukraine and our interactions or calls.”

Last week, Donald Trump dubbed the impeachment proceedings against him as a "double standard never seen" in US history. This came after US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch deposed before the Congressional panel on the second day of impeachment hearings. “A double standard like never seen before in the history of our Country,” Trump tweeted as Yovanovitch was grilled on president's interaction with Ukrainians.

Asserting that he has done no wrong, Trump released transcripts of his first phone to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after his electoral victory.

Meanwhile, Trump slammed the Opposition Democratic Party for scheduling impeachment hearings against him when he is attending the NATO Summit in the United Kingdom.

Trump left the White House on Monday morning to attend the NATO Summit in Britain.

“This is one of the most important journeys that we make as President. And for them (Democrats) to be doing this and saying this and putting an impeachment on the table, which is a hoax to start off with,” Trump told reporters on the South lawns of the White House before boarding Marine One aircraft.
