New Delhi:

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is all set to return to Downing Street with the Conservatives winning an overall majority in the UK general election. The Conservatives crossed the 326 threshold with results on several seats still pending. The return of Boris Johnson will end the uncertainty over Brexit and will help him to take the UK out of the European Union by the end of next month.

According to the latest figures, the Conversatives won 338 seats while the Labour Party suffered the worst nightmare in moderntimes. Labour won 200 seats, 56 down from its tally in the last general elections. The results for the 36 seats were not declared yet. Exit polls from Thursday's vote had predicted that the Conservatives could win as many as 368 seats.

Bouyed by the results, 55-year-old Johnson said that the victory would give him a mandate to "get Brexit done" and take the UK out of the EU next month. After getting the majority, Johnson’s party is headed towards the biggest win for a Conservative leader since Margaret Thatcher in 1987.

"It does look as though this One Nation Conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate to get Brexit done," Johnson said in the victory speech.
