New Delhi :

India is the land of several religions, yet security was heightened in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar on Friday after two sections of the society Hindus and Muslims claimed the right to perform worship at the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula mosque.

In the morning, Hindu organisations performed rituals outside Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque on the occasion of Vasant Panchami after they allegedly found some security men wearing shoes at the site, where Muslims too offer namaz.

“We went inside Bhojshala to offer puja, but when we saw security personnel wearing shoes, we decided to leave the place and come outside. We have started the puja opposite to Bhojshala,” Dharm Jagran Manch’s district head Gopal Sharma told.

Meanwhile, security was tightened turning MP’s Dhar into ‘Ayodhya’.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has let Hindus pray at the shrine on Tuesdays and on Basant Panchami, and allows Muslims to offer namaaz on Fridays — an arrangement that, however, goes haywire when the festival is on a Friday.

This happened in 2006 and 2013 — and this year, Basant Panchami is again on a Friday, February 12.
