Former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh's grandson Harkirat Singh has reportedly committed suicide. He was soon rushed to Chandigarh’s PGIMER hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

According to several reports, this has been learnt that Harkirat shot himself in the head at their family home in Sector 5, Chandigarh.

Cops have reached his house to interrogate reason behind the death. Family and his friends claim suicide as Harkirat was battling depression from past few days.

Harkirat was a working member of Indian National Congress from Chandigarh. He was elected as the sarpanch of Kotli village falling in Ludhiana district. His brother Gurkeerat Singh is an MLA representing the Congress from Khanna constituency.
