An armed gunman opened fire in a cinema complex in the western German town of Viernheim, leaving several wounded. According to an English daily, the man entered the place wearing a mask carrying a gun and a munition belt. The man is reported to have fired into the air with an alarm gun as he entered the cinema.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear yet. The gunmen has been shot dead after police stormed the complex. No hostages were injured in the complex in the western town of Viernheim, 75 kilometres (50 miles) south of Frankfurt.
Initial reports had referred to dozens of wounded people and several shots fired, and police dispatched heavily armed special units to the site which was denied later.
