What is Pay Commission?

New Delhi:

Union Cabinet today approved the 7th Pay Commission which means that there would a hike in salaries and allowances for over one crore central government employees and pensioners by at least 23.5 per cent.

Now let us understand what is Pay Commission?

Pay Commission is a panel which is constituted by the government of India which will give recommendations regarding changes in salary structure of government employees.

-It was formed in 1946, the government constitutes pay commission almost every 10 years. Till date, there have been seven pay commissions.

-The Commission has an inclusion of advisers, institutional consultants and various experts. Its headquarter is in Delhi.

-About 7th Pay Commission:

-This 7th Pay Commission was formed in February 2014 by the then UPA Government headed by  Justice A K Mathur.

-The Commission has recommended for the lowest hike in 70 years by suggesting a 14.27 per cent increase in basic pay at junior levels.

-One Rank One Pension has been proposed for civilian government employees on line of OROP for armed forces.
