New Delhi:

A Special CBI Court on Wednesday acquitted former Karnataka CM and BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa and others in an illegal mining scam case. The verdict came into an alleged 40 crore bribery corruption case involving his family members and the steel company JSW.

Allegations are that Yeddyurappa, his two sons, son-in-law and a steel conglomerate JSW are involved in criminal conspiracy, bribery,forgery and corruption in a case.

Earlier during hearing of the case on May 3 2016 Yeddyurappa broke down claiming he was innocent and that he was a victim of political conspiracy.  Not only this, he also tried to quash the case in the Supreme Court but was unable to do so.

About the illegal mining scam case

According to a Lokayukta report on illegal mining (South-West Mining case) submitted by former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde in July 2011 mining firm JSW , which is a part of the Jindal group bought 1.2 acres of land from a private firm owned by the Yeddyurappa family.

The transaction was done for 20 crores which is alleged was much higher than the guidance value.

It is alleged that bribe was paid for a grant of official favours during Yeddyurappa's CM tenure.
