New Delhi:

John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha starrer “Force 2” opened to a poor response barely raking in Rs five crore on Friday. The movie opened poorly across the theatres with around 15-20% occupancy across the 1800 screens where it got released.

Force 2 is a sequel to 2011 action flick Force. Though the film did an average business at the box office then but it got rave reviews for its action scenes. The director-actor duo of Abhinav Deo and John Abraham cashed in on the audience review of Force to come up with a sequel to the 2011 release. But this time around, Force 2 couldn't have come at a more troubled time when the economy is reeling under demonetisation.

The latest action drama Force 2 followed close on the heels of Rock On 2 which also failed to generate moolah at the box office. The reason being demonetisation. The decreasing footfall at multiplexes because of cash-crunch has affected the Bollywood release like never before. An ambitious sequel to the 2008 mega hit, the Farhan Akhtar starrer Rock On 2 flopped miserably when it released barely three days after PM Modi's demonetisation announcement.

Another sequel “Tum Bin 2” hit the theaters this Friday and the Neha Sharma's romantic-drama film too failed to bring viewers to the theatres. The movie could not even collect Rs 1 crore on the day of release.

Looking for a big hit after Rocky Handsome debacle, John Abraham had pinned great hopes from the box office success of Force 2. Even his lead heroine Sonakshi Sinha had to contend with another flop after the disaster of Akira.

Force 2 portrays John Abraham as a police officer fighting against terrorism, while Sonkashi Sinha plays the role of a RAW officer. The film also stars ‘Mardaani’ fame Tahir Raj Bhasin playing negative role.
